Early Career Researcher (ECR) Event

At the BFDG we have always cherished the input and collaboration between experienced academics and those entering academia with a fresh perspective. We are committed to nurturing and supporting ECRs as they explore opportunities, build confidence, and begin shaping their scientific careers.

Alongside our annual meeting, we have an ECR event to help PhDs and ECRs connect with peers, share ideas, and have their voices heard. Using a mixture of invited speaker presentations, panel discussions, interactive workshops, and dedicated networking sessions, this event aims to support ECRs in gaining transferable skills, expanding networks, develop employability, and navigating academic, industry, and related career paths with confidence.

ECR Event Info

The BFDG 2027 ECR Event will again be sponsored by the Consumer Lab and will be held on Wednesday 7th April 2027 at the University of Liverpool.

Please note:

  • Using a mixture of presentations by guest speakers, such as practical and interactive sessions, the ECR Event will cover a variety of fundamental topics within academia and industry. The entire ECR Event will be held in person. Unfortunately online attendance is not available.
  • The registration of the ECR Event is completely free. Attendees do not need to sign up for the BFDG main conference to join the ECR Event.
  • Lunch will be served on the day. We will be able to take dietary requirements, restrictions, and accessibility needs into account. However, please note the lunch will be buffet style with a variety of options. Please leave your dietary requirements in the registration form and inform the ECR committee on the day if necessary.
  • At the end of the event, join us for a social for dinner and drinks to get to know other BFDG attendees ahead of the main conference!
