Hardship Scholarships & ECR Award
The BFDG has secured sponsorship from the Consumer Lab to be able to provide a limited number of hardship scholarships for students/ECRs who wish to attend and present their research but do not have funding to do so.
The hardship scholarship will cover the cost of standard registration (including the conference dinner) plus an additional £150 bursary for other costs (e.g., travel/accommodation). Please note that students or ECRs who reside in the Liverpool City Region are NOT eligible for the additional travel bursary.
Eligible individuals will be current students OR within 4 years of PhD or equivalent professional training OR within 2 years of your first academic appointment (excluding any career break).
Each applicant must upload a letter from their supervisor/line manager/Head of School confirming why they do not believe they have access to funding for conference attendance and why this scholarship is necessary for them to be able to attend BFDG 2027. The letter must be no longer than one standard A4 page, in 12pt font with single line spacing, and be signed (electronic signature is fine) with contact details (email) for the signatory.
Please note that if the total number of applications for hardship scholarships exceeds the available funding, a random lottery system will be used to decide who is awarded.
Please apply here by 18th December 2026 (before 23:59) to submit an application for a hardship scholarship.
